Standard Ball Couplings
Trailer and Caravan Road Coupling Parts
Couplings installed on caravans can pull various heavy loads at highway speeds. The towing vehicle varies from a light car to a truck.
At Couplemate, we stock Al-ko coupling spares for road caravans, horse floats and off-road campers.
The type of trailer coupling required is entirely dependent upon the load or total weight of the trailer, and it may also depend on the weight of the tow vehicle.
Mechanical and hydraulic brakes control the 2t override coupling.
The best-selling and real workhorse of the trailer industry is the 3500kg Electric Coupling.
Caravans and trailer towing equipment are rated to 3.5t tow ball. However, 4.5t trailer couplings use a 70mm tow ball. Unlike the couplings we’ve discussed, you’ll need approval from DOT Canberra before you use the 70mm couplings on the highway.
Some caravan setups are unsuitable for a ball and coupling. These setups require a pintle and ring-type setup.
Trailers rated over 4.5t use a combination of air over hydraulic, heavy-duty braking systems.
Furthermore, we have an ADR-approved 6t ring coupling, which suits trailers rated up to 6t.
