Replacement Steel Spring Rocker Bush | 18mm ID
Rocker-rollers are common on trailers and typically feature an anchor-shaped centre rocker. It’s normal for these rockers to be cast as a complete unit, as they’re simple to manufacture and provide a decently solid product.
However, the downside of casting means that there are no spare parts.
This meant repairers had to purchase a whole new rocker, rather than just replacing the worn area. In our experience, the units themselves last a decently long time. In almost all cases, the centre bush is the first to wear.
As such, Couplemate™ manufactured this 18mm steel bush as an alternative to replacing the whole assembly wherein only the bush has worn.
Rocker Roller Arm Bush Installation
- Select the side that has no casting overhang resting on the old bush.
- Remove the old bush by placing the new bush over the top of the old bush.
- Ensure there is room under the old bush to allow it to be pushed out.
- Tap the new bush with a hammer until the old bush is fully expelled from the rocker’s arm.
Key Benefits
Given their material composition, steel bushes are robust and provide shackle bolts a smooth, wear-resistant surface.
As with all steel-on-steel applications, you will need a greaseable shackle bolt and regular application of trailer lubricant. While maintenance can be tedious, proper greasing significantly improves the quality of your ride and ensures you maximise the life of your rocker-roller.
What You Should Check Prior To
This is a cylindrical steel bush with an 18mm ID and 22 OD. Please ensure these measurements match yours.
Moreover, it’s vital you inspect:
- The suspension bolts, nuts, and bushes (including the 60mm rollers).
- The integrity of your rocker and hanger bolt holes.
- The rocker-roller leaf springs themselves.
Couplemate™ recommends replacing components that show signs of elongation or excess wear. Standard spare parts for rocker-roller systems include:
- 16mm Non-Greaseable Shackle Bolts
- 16mm Greaseable Shackle Bolts
- 18mm Hex Rocker Roller Centre Bolt
- 60mm Spring Hangers – Centre, Front, Rear
