What’s in the Spring U-Bolt Kit?
Couplemate™️ Spring U-Bolt Kits feature only high-quality, trusted components. In each kit, you will receive:
- 4 x U-bolts
- 8 x Nylock nuts
- 8 x Flat washers
- 2 x U-bolt plates (fish plates)
- 2 x Axle pads
What the axle pads used for? These pads are welded to your axle as a security mechanism. Axle pads prevent the steel leaf spring centre pin and steel axle from direct contact. The Couplemate™️ technical hub has a good article that talks more about axle pad importance here.
Customers who buy the Spring U-Bolt Kit for maintenance reasons are unlikely to need these axle pads (they should already be welded). However, they are useful as spares and can be used on new axle beam suspension builds.
Axle pads are also known as spring locators.
How do I know which Spring U-Bolt Kit I need?
Traditionally, Australian trailers and caravans have leaf springs and an axle underneath the chassis. If your trailer or caravan has this, you will need a u-bolt kit.
U-Bolts are listed on our website by the internal measurements. To work out which kit you need, you’ll want to measure your axle width (e.g. 50mm square) and the length you need.
Couplemate™️ U-bolts are available in two types and suit common axle sizes (round or square).
- 12.7mm (1/2″) Galvanised: For light-duty trailers and caravans (up to 1450kg single axle or 2900kg tandem axle).
- 16mm (M16) Electro-Plated: For light-duty or medium-duty application (from 1600kg to 4500kg ATMs).
