Hubs for Unbraked Axles
Unbraked hubs can come in a variety of stud patterns and bearing profiles. The phrase “lazy hub” comes from twin axle trailer builds wherein the first axle is braked but the second is unbraked.
Hub Drums for Braked Axles
Drums are great for a variety of towing applications because of their flexibility in brakes. Electric, hydraulic, and mechanical backing plates all require brake drums. There are two types of hub drums:
- One-Piece: This type is also known as “integral” and are a single component
- Two-Piece: These types have two components.
Disc Hubs for Braked Axles
These are more common on boat trailers and off-road campers. In Australia, there are two main types of disc hubs with two sub-characteristics:
- Integral Disc: More common for Australian-style trailers.
- Ventilated
- Solid
- Two-Piece Disc: Less common for Australian trailers (but more common on American).
