How Do Trailer Brake Drums Work?
Drum brakes use a backing plate, which causes friction on the inner surface of your drum through a brake shoes. When you apply brakes, these shoes engage and press against the rotating brake drum. This is what causes your trailer to stop!

Who Needs Trailer Brake Drums?
Australian legislation states that all trailers, caravans, and campers must have brakes fitted once the ATM exceeds 750kg.
As such, 10″ trailer brake drums are used on on trailers with an ATM from 750kg up to 2000kg. The brake type can be mechanical, hydraulic, or electric and are required on one axle.
