Why use Japanese Kits?
At Couplemate, we’ve found NSK Japanese bearings to be reliable for Caravans at high speed under all conditions.

We also recommend the use of High-Temperature axle grease, even in used in boat trailer bearings.

We stock only Japanese bearing kits, as these work well even when your caravan is running at high speeds.

All you have to do is give us a call, and we will deliver your bearing kits anywhere in Australia.

When considering caravan bearings, it is wise to select Japanese bearings rather than no-name, Chinese or Indian bearings.

For years Couplemate used Chinese bearings, and we regret it. The cost of warranty work was immense; however, the customer dissatisfaction level was higher and persuaded us to dump all bearings except for Japanese bearings.

In the last 15 years, we have had zero complaints from Japanese bearings. Problems from collapsed bearings have been found to originate from lack of servicing, magnet wear or brake shoe wear.

Ball Bearing FAQ

Which country made NSK bearings?
Japan

These pages provide information on NSK’s main manufacturing sites in Japan. See NSK’s history since 1916 as the first maker of ball bearings in Japan.

Study-bearing basics and NSK advancements that help industries grow and thrive. Learn how NSK bearings and precision products are used in daily life.

What is the most commonly used bearing material?
52100 chrome steel

The most common material used to produce the load-carrying components in precision ball bearings, roller bearings, and tapered roller bearings is 52100 chrome steel. These components are the bearing’s inner and outer rings, balls and rollers.

Are NSK bearings good quality?
NSK is a global bearing company with over 100 years of history. It offers the highest levels of safety and Japanese quality.

The Importance Of Seals In Your Bearing Kit
One of the essential things about bearing kits is the often-forgotten seal.

What are the oldest bearings?
The earliest bearings were made of wood, and animal fat was used to lubricate them. The ancient Egyptians used tree trunks as roller bearings to move large, heavy stones, which were used in the construction of pyramids. The earliest recovered example of a rolling element bearing is from 40 BC.

At Couplemate, we’re not all for the 100% rubber seal; we’d instead suggest a rubber seal with a metal outer. These have a spring around the inner rubber lip, to put a little tension on the axle journal—a great way to close the gap of 0.01mm.

We also do not suggest seals with a rubber outer casing, as they are difficult to install and are generally low-quality seals.
