Important information for Marine Bearing Seals.

Marine seals are designed to rotate inside their metal retaining ring.

Friction can generate heat up to 100 °C.

You must liberally grease this seal around the outside ring of a marine seal. The seal is then placed onto the axle, not into the hub.

A dry marine seal causes excess heat.

When replacing bearings, it is wise to remove the old bearing cups. Cups and races are subject to wear and tear. Carbon black in your grease or black grease is a sign of bearing wear. Immediately replace bearing cups and races.

Low-quality wheel bearings have inferior coatings and low tolerances.

Use high-temperature bearing grease at high speeds.

Do’s and Don’ts for Installation

DO pack the new bearings thoroughly with high-temperature grease before fitting.
DO clean the hub cavity completely to remove any old grease and dirt particles.
DO make sure the 64607 seal faces the right way and sits perfectly flush.
DON’T hit the new bearing or seal directly with a standard metal hammer.
DON’T over-tighten the axle nut because too much preload will destroy the bearings.
DON’T mix different grease bases, as they can break down and fail.
