There is a great variety of manufacturers who produce a U bolts in rage of quality from very good to very bad.
This has occured because there is no Australian Standard or Australian Design Rule that specified a standard for U bolts on Austrfalia trailers. The effect is unsafe and just plain dangerous trailers that are involved in accidents due to u bolts suffering hydrogen embrittlement.
Hydrogen Embrittlement causes U bolts to be bend with your bare hands so puttin gthem on a trailer is just plain unsafe.
Square U bolts are the culprit. Look inside the u bolt, in the corner ther emay be small hairline cracks.
Our company designed our own testing procedure for U bolts and proceed to manufacture when we were sure our u bolt would not fail in even extreme conditions.
